Fall (August/September 2011) Edition
Music Now Spotlight
by Isaac Davis Junior, BGS, MBA
Isaac: It’s an amazing time to be a DIY artist/performer/band/musician. What do you enjoy the most about being an indie performer?
Zach & Eddie: We love interacting with the audience. Getting to know our fans on a personal level and interacting with them is a lot of fun and we meet some great people along the way.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to sign with a major label, would you sign now knowing you may have to give up some of what you have built up over the years about you in the process?
Zach and Eddie: Yes, because they have the tools to elevate us to a higher level that as independent artist, we wouldn't be able to do on our own. We know the sacrifices that we have to give up and have already compromised on a lot of things in our teen years that is what you do to reach your goals. Everyone dreams of getting a record contract to take you to that next level of success that is what we've worked so hard and sacrificed for, to ultimately get signed!
Isaac: I remembered Simon Cowell from American Idol talking about the “it” Factor that makes a musician/band stand out. What do you think is your “it” factor that makes you stand out from others in the music business?
Zach and Eddie: We try to think outside of the box and to be creative when we do performances, so that it makes us different than anyone else. We both give 100 percent when we perform and we have an awesome time doing it. It shows when we perform and when we have a good time doing what we do, the audience has a good time. If you can make the audience enjoy themselves when you perform, that to us is the "It" factor.
Isaac: Why should music fans listen to your music? Describe what they are going to get when they listen to your music?
Zach and Eddie: We can see our music out there with all the biggest names, we know they are radio ready and have huge potential. When fans hear them, they are jamming out to our songs, especially at parties. We have mostly dance songs that you can really get in to. When people hear them, they can't help but tap their feet, clap their hands or just move to the beat. Fans have fun listening to our songs no matter where they are.
Isaac: Briefly describe your humble beginnings that led you to where you are at musically now.
Zach and Eddie: Both of us started at very young ages, entertaining local crowds at festivals, events and parties, etc. We both have done Off - Broadway shows, TV, Commercials, Movies and Modeling, then decided to start singing together a couple of years ago. We performed a couple of times together and really had a blast, so decided to continue doing it. Now we perform for larger crowds and bigger venues and enjoy meeting new fans and friends along our journey. It's been a really awesome experience so far. It's a slow steady process of growing your fan base, etc. and we enjoy all the support from our families and friends along the way.
Isaac: You have some strong iconic influences. Of these influences, which artist/band do you relate to the most and why?
Zach: Maroon 5, because their music is different. They perform many different styles of music and sound good doing it all. They are tremendous musicians. They are a huge musical inspiration to me, especially...Adam Levine. He is an amazing singer.
Eddie: Well let's change it up a little here, LOL! Katy Perry, because she's HOT!! She is also an amazing performer.

Isaac: Do you feel that Indie music gets the respect it deserves? Why or why not?
Zach and Eddie: No, it does not. Because there are a lot of talented Indie Artist out there, like ourselves, whose music deserves to be noticed, listened to and appreciated. Kudos to all the great Internet Sites for Indie Artist that really understand and appreciate what we're doing and they do what they can to help support all of us, especially great online magazines such as yours. If it wasn't for these opportunities, a lot of great music would not be heard.
Isaac: If you could change one thing about the music business, what would it be and why?
Zach and Eddie: For us to be Famous? LOL! Seriously, record companies need to look closer at talent. There are so many manufactured artists out there these days where the record companies have made them who they are and they don't have a lot of talent. Record Companies need to get back to the basics that they use to have when they looked for great artists. There are so many talented musicians out there that should be noticed for what they do.
Isaac: Do you think in the near future that DIY artists/bands will be the norm and big record companies will be very limited?
Zach and Eddie: Yes, because of the power of the Internet now, I think if people had the right tools to promote themselves, they could be very successful. Record companies are already limiting who they work with and what they do. There are no longer record companies and contracts like you use to have with Elvis, the Beatles and other big names. Record companies limit themselves to who they work with. Much of this is due to Internet exposure, people not buying CD's and buying downloads instead and being able to promote through the Internet and other means. We wish there was an easier way for independent artist to get noticed by the record companies. They need to get the credit they deserve for their talents and hard work.
Isaac: What type of feedbacks have you been receiving about your music from fans and music critics?
Zach and Eddie: They love us and always want to see more. We are well accepted when we perform live and we've been told that we are even better in person by critics, as well as fans. That means a lot to us. We've been to concerts and been disappointed when people don't sound as good in person. We like that people tell us that, we're doing our job! We've had several articles written on us from magazines, such as yourself and everyone gives us rave reviews. It's really great the reception we've gotten from so many great people!
Isaac: If you knew that you would never gain fame and fortune with what you are doing now, would you continue to make music? Explain.
Zach and Eddie: Yes, because we do it for the love of music and we enjoy entertaining the audiences. We have fun and want the audience to have fun also. As long as people will continue to come out and see us perform, we would do it. It's our life!
Isaac: How do you handle negative feedback or negative energy about your music?
Zach and Eddie: We take into consideration the negative and positive feedback that we receive. You have to take good and bad in this business. When you're in the public eye, not everyone is going to like you. But, we try to take constructive criticism and use it to make our performances better or help us to improve on what we're doing!
Isaac: What role do your family and friends play in the equation of your pursuant of a music career?
Zach and Eddie: Everything, they are our inspiration! They support all we do. Our moms drive us everywhere, promote us and are there for us. We would not be this far without the support and love of our families. They sacrifice a lot for us to do what we love to do. Our friends have been there to and believe in us. It is so important to have a positive team of family and friends behind you when you need them they are there to give you that extra push and keep you going!
