Junior’s Cave Golden Isles Online Magazine is proud to present a special interview with an amazing and talented artist who has dedicated her love for children, music, and her grandchildren to create a magically special children’s project. Meet Glen Naylor who expounds on this special children’s project that she has created and why she wants others to discover the joy and magic of her music.

Isaac: It’s an amazing time to be a DIY artist/performer/band/musician. What do you enjoy the most about being an indie performer?

Glen: Music has always been a passion and I love writing lyrics. However, I am a non performing artist due to my extremely demanding family responsibilities. My husband is a T.P.I. (totally permanently incapacitated) war veteran, and we have raised our gorgeous little grandson since he was a tiny baby, so my days are very busy.

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to sign with a major label, would you sign now knowing you may have to give up some of what you have build up over the years about you in the process?

Glen: Yes, as I have only being writing songs for a very short time and at a late stage of life. Therefore, I would be delighted to be given the opportunity to sign with a label.

Isaac: I remembered Simon Cowell from American Idol talking about the “it” Factor that makes a musician/band stand out. What do you think is your “it” factor that makes you stand out from others in the music business?

Glen: The “it” factor doesn’t really apply to me as a non performing artist, although musically and lyrically many of my Children’s songs are uniquely Australian with Aussie expressions, animals, habitats and so on which make them interesting.

Isaac: Why should music fans listen to your music? Describe what they are going to get when they listen to your music?

Glen: When writing the lyrics, I wanted to engage children with humor and fun songs to be enjoyed with adults too. Mmy co-writer Chris Wilson does the arrangements and Chris is a fantastic musician who plays many instruments. Some of the songs are up tempo and some are lullabies; the parents/grandparents can sing along with them.

Isaac: Briefly describe your humble beginnings that led you to where you are at musically now.

Glen: Due to my family circumstances mentioned above, I had a need about two years ago to turn the hardships of day to day living into something creative, thereby turning negatives into positives. I am fortunate to have the personality to do that and I am humbled by the recognition I have received particularly in the U.S.A.

Isaac: You have some strong iconic influences. Of these influences, which artist/band do you relate to the most and why?

Glen: The sheer genius of Miles Davis has always blown me away. When I was growing up, I preferred to listen to the music of my parents and grandparents time; Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin and so many others. Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra are just a few of the great singers I loved to listen to. Some of my recent work may reflect in some way the beautiful love songs that these artists performed.

Isaac: Do you feel that Indie music gets the respect it deserves? Why or why not?

Glen: I have not been in the business long enough to answer this question fairly. I am constantly amazed at the talent of some of the young musicians, so I hope that they are able to receive deserved support by those in the music industry.

Isaac: If you could change one thing about the music business, what would it be and why?

Glen: In Australia, I would like to see more radio airplay for Australian artists to be more in line with other countries like Canada for instance where it is my understanding that the radio stations must play a certain percentage of Canadian artists on air, which is a great thing.

Isaac: What type of feedbacks have you been receiving about your music from fans and music critics?

Glen: The feedback I have received is very humbling, especially in the U.S. and the highlight of 2010 was being the 1st Runner Up with Gary Allen in Nashville. Gary was with the Charlie Daniels Band, JJ Cale and many others, Gary has performed with some of the best in the business, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones to name just a few.

Every time I have entered Gary’s contest I have placed in the final judging, I still have to pinch myself. Also, with Mike Pinder (Moody Blues) naming me as Semi -finalist was almost unbelievable, with a song I wrote about the terrible bushfires in Victoria, Australia, last year. The title is “Wrap your arms around our Mates”.

Isaac: If you knew that you would never gain fame and fortune with what you are doing now, would you continue to make music? Explain.

Glen: I don’t expect that I will ever gain fame or fortune. I have left my run too late! And there is much more in life. Music is in my blood and I will continue to write forever.

Isaac: How do you handle negative feedback or negative energy about your music?

Glen: So far, I have not had a lot of negativity regarding my music, so I consider myself fortunate. In the last year or so, I have digressed from Children’s songs, firstly, by writing the Ode about the bushfires and then some blues ballads and other styles. I will continue to write some children’s songs because music is a wonderful way to relate to children.

Isaac: What role do your family and friends play in the equation of your pursuant of a music career?

Glen: My love of children, music, and Australia is my inspiration. My songs are written for my own grandchildren too, I have three lovely boys and one beautiful little girl who recently turned three and she loves to sing!

Isaac: What is the best site/s that you can be found on the Internet?

Glen: My website is www.bonzabobbydazzler.com My new songs can be heard on www.sonicbids.com/GlenNaylor

Isaac: The floor is yours; final words…..

Glen: Follow your heart; pursue your dreams, irrespective of your age or circumstance! When times are difficult, turn them on their head, and CREATE something and wonderful things can happen!
