Children of God

With String of Awards and Accolades, New York Audiences Eagerly Await Children of God With Open Arms; Theatrical Run Starts May 20

(PHILADELPHIA – MAY 6, 2011)
– The winner of 14 prestigious awards, including audience awards and jury prizes in Spain, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago, Atlanta and New York, gay film festival favorite CHILDREN OF GOD will make its theatrical premiere at the Quad Cinema in New York City on May 20.

The film will then be released on DVD on June 7 through TLA Releasing.
Written and directed by Bahamian director Kareem Mortimer, CHILDREN OF GOD tells the stories of three very different individuals: Lena, the conservative, deeply religious wife of a secretly gay firebrand pastor; Romeo, a handsome young black man hiding his sexuality from his close-knit and loving family; and Johnny, the conflicted and creatively-blocked white artist in search of himself.

All three characters head for the spectacularly beautiful and tranquil island of Eleuthera, in the Bahamas, each with a different reason for escaping their current circumstances. Soon, their disparate worlds collide in unexpected and affecting ways.

The film features a stellar ensemble cast, which includes Stephen Tyrone Williams (Ruined), Mark Richard Ford (Rent), Margaret Laurena Kemp (Commander in Chief) and Johnny Ferro (The Video Guys).

“Children of God is such a timely film and packs a real emotional punch,” says Mortimer. “I am so happy audiences in North America will soon be able to access it. We are so excited to share our film theatrically in New York City and later roll it out on DVD to the rest of America.”

The DVD will contain special features such as a director’s commentary, deleted scenes, and the official trailer, as well as Mortimer’s award-winning short film, “Float.”
