Skyler
Junior's Cave Music Interview with Skyler
April 2011 Edition
Music Now Spotlight by Isaac Davis Junior, BGS, MBA

Skyler
Isaac: It’s an amazing time to be a DIY artist/performer/band/musician. What do you feel you contribute musically to the Indie Music Culture?
Skyler: We add a type of songwriting that has, unfortunately, has been missing from the pop world for years.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to sign with a major label, would you sign now knowing you may have to give up some of what you have build up over the years about you in the process?
Skyler: That would certainly be a consideration. It would come down to this: is what we're giving up being made for in other ways? If we have to give something up but we'd get something much greater in return, then great. But if we'd just be losing what's unique to us and we don't get much back in return, then it wouldn't be worth it. It's a case by case basis, and not a situation to take lightly.
Isaac: This is so true.
Take You Away Cover
Isaac: I remembered Simon Cowell from American Idol talking about the “it” Factor that makes a musician/band stand out. What do you think is your “it” factor that makes you stand out from others in the music business?
Skyler: Honestly, I don't know. I think you know it when you see it, when you feel it, when you hear it. Unfortunately, I can't step out of my body to be able to watch the band perform. I just have to trust people when they say we have "it."
Isaac: Which one of the important elements you feel will make you stand out from the rest of the musicians/artists in the music industry?
Skyler: We're always willing and eager to work harder than anybody else.
Isaac: Do you feel you have given it your best when pursuing your musical dreams so far? Why or why not?
Skyler: Definitely. We never stop working.
Isaac: Who do you look up to for your own influences and why?
Skyler: Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. The longevity and importance of their careers cannot be overemphasized.
Isaac: Do you feel that Indie music gets the respect it deserves? Why or why not?
Skyler: Generally, no. If only because there is a vast lack of understanding of bands that are Indie. Unfortunately, this has caused some Indie bands to have a chip on their shoulder, and that doesn't do anyone any good.
Isaac: If you could change one thing about the music business, what would it be and why?
Skyler: The greed. Unfortunately, there's greed in every aspect of business.
Isaac: What has been one of your biggest setbacks and how did you overcome it? What lesson did you learn about yourself?
Skyler: Fortunately, we haven't hit any major setbacks yet. The biggest was losing our drummer shortly after releasing our first CD, but that was remedied rather quickly.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you been receiving about your music from fans and music critics?
Skyler: That they like how Country our music is. I didn't even know we were Country! But if they like it, that's all that matters to me.
Isaac: If you knew that you would never gain fame and fortune with what you are doing now, would you continue to make music? Explain.

Skyler
Skyler: Of course. It's not about the money or fame. It's about this impossible to explain drive to share your music with the world. It would, of course, make things like buying food much more difficult...
Isaac: How do you handle negative feedback or negative energy about your music?
Skyler: With grace and humility. I believe that is the mark of a true performer. It doesn't mean you aren't hurt or angry, but you don't have to engage.
Isaac: What role do your family and friends play in the equation of your pursuant of a music career?
Skyler: They all support and inspire me every day.
Isaac: What is the best site/s that you can be found on the Internet?
Skyler: www.skylertunes.com, we're also on all social media sites: facebook.com/skylertunes, twitter.com/skylertunes, youtube.com/skylertunes, myspace.com/skylertunes, etc.
Isaac: The floor is yours; final words & wisdom of thoughts...
Skyler: I wouldn't be anywhere without my fans. Thank you for your support!
