Silvina
Get ready to be amazed by the wonderful music of Silvina who combines several genres including Pop, Latin, and Singer/Songwriter into a beautiful mixture. She sings with passion and heart that fans of great music will enjoy her sound. In this spotlight with our Webzine, Silvina speaks openly about her music. Enjoy!
Isaac: It’s an amazing time to be a DIY artist/performer/band/musician. What do you enjoy the most about being an indie performer?
Silvina: If there were ever a time to be an INDIE artist, it is NOW! With all the possibilities out there for us to explore, expose our music to the world, and basically, self manage our careers. It is very exciting for me to wake up and work hard everyday, and to know that I only hold myself accountable for my progress as an Indie Artist.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to sign with a major label, would you sign now knowing you may have to give up some of what you have build up over the years about you in the process?
Silvina: The previous question actually builds into this one. I've grown as an artist over the years and now I am at a plateau where I know who I am as an artist and what I want out of my music. The beauty of being signed to a record label would be the financial possibilities and economical bounty to produce and the massive reach and distribution. At this point in my life, I would still push to be allowed to write and do what I do with my music; maybe not so much ten years ago.
Isaac: I remembered Simon Cowell from American Idol talking about the “it” Factor that makes a musician/band stand out. What do you think is your “it” factor that makes you stand out from others in the music business?
Silvina: My IT Factor is definitely tied up to what I was saying before. A true Artist, one who is himself, with his own personal signature and uniqueness, is not made overnight. It is a growing process. My IT Factor, is my UNIQUENESS as an artist. What I am able to bring to the table of the music industry that gives me an edge, a niche. The fact that I come from such a different background, the fact that I am truly a BI-CULTURAL artist not just a Latin one who can also speak English.
I have spent half of my life in Argentina, and the other half in the USA. I belong to both cultures in very specific way, which allows me to see things from a broader point of view. My music style has grown and evolved with me and became part of that soul searching that helped me find my own signature style.
Isaac: Why should music fans listen to your music? Describe what they are going to get when they listen to your music?
Silvina: I am actually very very proud of this part. Proud to say that the main part of why my music is different is that I believe that as an artist I am compelled to speaking out, let my voice be heard for others that don't have one. When I write lyrics, I have so many things to say! Not just about love. I want to be able to empower people's lives and to make a difference. My writing process focuses on writing a musical smash as much as taking people somewhere with my lyrics. I call it a DOUBLE IMPACT.
Isaac: Briefly describe your humble beginnings that led you to where you are at musically now.
Silvina: I grew up in Buenos Aires Argentina and self taught guitar, enough to help me write and strum some tunes around the age of 9. My first song; ironically was in English. Briefly, I think the main thing that stands out about my childhood is that we had not too much of anything but enough to create in me a mind of abundance, not based on material things but based in matters of the heart. My main toys were music, dancing, singing, throughout elementary and High School. I had so much true fun!!!
Isaac: You have some strong iconic influences. Of these influences, which artist/band do you relate to the most and why?
Silvina: I relate to those artists who have something to say and who influence society in a positive way, who leave a social mark, who make a difference through their lyrics, their messages, and Humanitarian crusades, like Shakira and Ricky Martin.
Isaac: Do you feel that Indie music gets the respect it deserves? Why or why not?
Silvina: Indie music still does not get the respect it deserves. The leading market is still Main Stream, and the Media focuses over and over on those few. Luckily, we live in an era where the Internet opens up a world of possibilities therefore we have ways available to us in order to reach masses of people with our music.
Isaac: If you could change one thing about the music business, what would it be and why?
Silvina: Again, it would be more openness to other artists and genres. I believe that Mainstream is dictated by the people (labels and media) who have the power and control of the music industry. The public usually ends up liking and buying the music that the leaders put out. That is the main thing, I believe, should change: The Monopoly.
Isaac: What type of feedbacks have you been receiving about your music from fans and music critics?
Silvina: I intend for my music to be a Double Impact. It is about strong melodies but also strong messages. My music has very worthy cause. I feel that my vision is manifested into reality if I can touch somebody's heart or move someone into action to change something for good.
My song "Con la pena en la maleta" talks about a very rough topic. It defines domestic abuse. It intends to raise awareness and inspire women who might feel trapped, to burst out of that prison.
Isaac: If you knew that you would never gain fame and fortune with what you are doing now, would you continue to make music? Explain.
Silvina: Yes, I definitely would, because my goal was never FAME and FORTUNE but a deep desire to fulfill my life’s purpose. That is all I basically want. Of course, FAME and FORTUNE are very welcome as by products of my purpose.
Isaac: How do you handle negative feedback or negative energy about your music?
Silvina: The beauty of music is that it is not exact like Math is. It is always about taste, it is Subjective!!! So automatically, there's always going to be people who will love it or won't. The secret I believe is to be true to myself.
Negative energy used to get me. It does not anymore. I learned that it is all part of the Law of Polarity, the Ying and the Yang.
Isaac: What role do your family and friends play in the equation of your pursuant of a music career?
Silvina: I am very fortunate now because everybody in my family is in on my pursuit. They all support me and celebrate what I am doing. They know that it is all part of who I am; that it comes with the territory.
Isaac: What is the best site/s that you can be found on the Internet?
Silvina: I think Jango Airplay is a great site not only for the artist for opportunities and exposure and radio time airplay but for the audience as well, since it is the only place where you can find and discover Indie artists, create your own radio stations and playlists, share it with friends, and basically stick it to mainstream radio monopoly.
Isaac: The floor is yours; final words…..
Silvina: I know and I believe the music I make can impact lives, My next project is to produce the Music Video for "No se porque" which has been nominated for the OUT Music awards for Best Humanitarian song of the year award this coming spring. The video idea has been playing in my head over and over. It is a very strong vision and I know the production will benefit thousands of children who live and survive the abuse, exploitation and neglect. These are the street children of the Latin American countries, who need a safe haven and a voice. It is a dream, and a close reality to produce this music video.
