Music Now Spotlight

by Isaac Davis Junior, BGS, MBA

Junior’s Cave is happy to reveal our interview with the amazing Indie band Ocelot Robot. Fans will find this band’s music appealing and fun to listen to. Check out what the members of this band had to say about several matters concerning music, fame, and everything else in between. Enjoy!

Isaac: It’s an amazing time to be a DIY artist/performer/band/musician. What do you enjoy the most about being an indie performer?

Ocelot Robot: We love that, at this stage, it's very easy for our fans to connect with us - at shows and online. Because we do everything: promote, perform, sell our own merch, run our own websites, answer our own email... we're able connect directly with the people that are into the band. It's hard to imagine ever giving that privilege up.

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to sign with a major label, would you sign now knowing you may have to give up some of what you have build up over the years about you in the process?

Ocelot Robot: Like anything, it just depends on the situation. We're not going to set any limits on who we'll work with. Some bands wear the 'indie' badge on their chest, and they take it to their grave. We believe our music could be appealing to a whole lot of people in this world, and we're in search of the best opportunity to take it everywhere we can. Because we've worked so hard, we are cautious about our partnerships, but at the same time, we're not looking to get in our own way of success.

Isaac: I remembered Simon Cowell from American Idol talking about the “it” Factor that makes a musician/band stand out. What do you think is your “it” factor that makes you stand out from others in the music business?

Ocelot Robot: The fact that we are genuinely having a good time is key - and it shows on our record, our live show, our first music video - everything we do. If you're not having fun making music, you're doing it wrong. We believe that stuff is totally contagious.

Isaac: Why should music fans listen to your music? Describe what they are going to get when they listen to your music?

Ocelot Robot: We offer fun, high-energy, honest rock music. It's primal, it's real, it's done well, and above all it's a good time.

Isaac: Briefly describe your humble beginnings that led you to where you are at musically now.

Ocelot Robot: We were friends long before we were a band. We met working at a recording studio in Hollywood and once it dawned on us to start a band together, we never turned back.

Isaac: You have some strong iconic influences. Of these influences, which artist/band do you relate to the most and why?

Ocelot Robot: We definitely found a common ground with Huey Lewis & the News. Our influences are all over the place, so we had to go straight to the Heart of Rock & Roll - and thanks to Huey, we found that it's still beating.

Isaac: Do you feel that Indie music gets the respect it deserves? Why or why not?

Ocelot Robot: We feel that good music is good music. Fans like what they like and appreciate when something is well done. At the end of the day people don't care who's writing the checks, as long as there is a song and a performance that moves them.
