We are proud to present a new interview with an amazing artist who sings with power, passion, and heart that fans will fall in love with especially his melodic yet edgy vocals and crafted lyrics. With just the right amount of mixture of Rock and Country, Anthony, musically known as 610, is the real deal who knows how to deliver. In this exclusive interview with our Webzine, 610 speaks candidly about his music and why he wants others to listen to him. Here is the full interview for your enjoyment.
Isaac: What’s the name of your band? What’s the origin of that name? Have you changed the band’s name before?
610: 610 reflects my birthday - June 10th. This is the 3rd name change and I believe that it will stick.
Isaac: What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
610: My music moves between Alt-Rock, Alt-Country and AAA. I prefer the Alternative umbrella because then I can experiment with different genres and sounds. I have been influenced the most by U2, REM, Depeche Mode, Johnny Cash and Bob Marley.
Isaac: How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
610: I am a solo act for now, but hope to recruit other artists and form a band. I do hire a studio drummer for all of my recordings.
Isaac: When did you from your band? What inspired you to make music together?
610: I started writing in High School, but really started writing songs in 2000 while experiencing major life changes.
Isaac: Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?
610: No label, but a member of ASCAP (love their annual conference).
Isaac: What can you tell me about your instruments? (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever is available? What made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color preference?
610: I play any guitars/basses that feel and sound good to me. I seem to gravitate towards Fender, Ovation and Martin instruments.
Isaac: Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
610: Being a solo act, I have performed at several open mics at coffee houses and local bars in the Chicago area. I played out at the end of last year - a sort of mini tour, but I'm back in the studio recording.
Isaac: Which songs do you perform most frequently? Do you ever play any covers? Do you have a set play list?
610: I always play "Can't Breathe, Can't Scream", "Cicada Song" and "Suicide Doors" live. I always mix in some covers to pay homage to my inspirations.
- "Heart of Gold", "Enjoy the Silence", "You Don't Know How It Feels". As long as I can enhance the cover with my own style!
Isaac: Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
610: I am the primary songwriter. Anything that inspires me and that is interesting qualifies as a song concept. And the topics are always changing!
Isaac: Could you briefly describe the music-making process?
610: It varies - sometimes I start with lyrics and sometimes with music. Sometimes I merge music and lyrics that were written separately.
Isaac: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?
610: I try to practice 2-3 times a week. I run through the live set list and then either write new songs or learn a new cover.
Isaac: How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?
610: The music has matured to the point where I am proud of it and am confident to share it with the world. It wasn't always like this!
Isaac: What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
610: Finding my ideal vocal range and becoming comfortable with it. I think I am almost there, but I want to continuously improve!
Isaac: What’s your ultimate direction for your music? Are you seeking fame and fortune?
610: I love to write songs and perform them live. Anyone outside of my inner circle that tells me that a song touched them - makes me ecstatic! I would love to do it professionally if the world appreciates my music and I can help the world in some way.
Isaac: What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
610: Just do it and see what happens. You might be surprised!
Isaac: How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?
610: My main site is www.610themusic.com. My music is also available on www.sonicbids.com/610singersongwriter, www.broadjam.com/610 and www.myspace.com/610singersongwriter. Physical CD's are available upon e-mail request.
Isaac: Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?
610: My girlfriend L.A. has supported this crazy thing that I do! Also, my cats who are always at rehearsal!
Isaac: Any last words?
610: Thanks for the opportunity and give 610 a listen!
