Music interview with Christian/Gospel Singer Karen Scott

By: Isaac Davis Jr., BGS, MBA

Karen Scott is singing her heart out with inspirational Christian/Gospel music that today’s Christians are enjoying. She is devoted in her faith and her love for our Savior in Christ is clearly represented in her music. Check Out this recent spotlight that our Webzine had with the Christian/Gospel Singer.

Isaac: We'd love to know about your inspirations growing up. I hear so many influences in your music. How old were you when you first discovered music? Is there any kind of musical history in your family?

Karen: As a child, I was always interested in listening to a variety of music from Diana Ross and the Supremes to Barbra Mandrell to Leontine Price. I did not have a favorite genre and I am still of that mindset today. I simply appreciate the unique living experience that each piece gives to my soul.

I was 5 years old when I sang my first professional solo. I am not sure of when I first discovered music. I believe that I must have been born with a love for music.

I am one of eleven children and many of my sisters and brothers are also really great singers and solo artists. I hope to be the beginning of music history in my family.

Isaac: What drew you to pick up an instrument in the first place?

Karen: I remember having fun watching other performers on television and singing along with them.

Isaac: As you hit your teenage years, did you know that this was what you would be doing for the rest of your life?

Karen: Yes, I have always known that music performance would my calling. As a teenager, one of my sisters and I temporarily formed an all girl singing group called, "The Young Exciters" and we sang at area military bases. We sang a lot of pop/copy tunes and dressed a lot like the Supremes.

Isaac: Is there a performer in any genre of pop culture that you would like to work with?

Karen: I would really love to work with the Great Stevie Wonder and because the style of music is so different from mine, I think that it would be a musical adventure to work with rap artists such 50 Cents one day.

Isaac: Who are some musicians that you really like, present or past?

Karen: Where would I begin? Well, if I had to pick three, I would say, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson.

Isaac: What is your ultimate goal with your music career?

Karen: My ultimate goal is to bring hope to others through my music.

Isaac: What has been some of the obstacles it has taken to get this far in your career?

Karen: The biggest obstacles that I have had to overcome have all been related to holding on to the knowledge that what I have to offer the world is worth pressing on.

Isaac: Would you recommend this "field" to others who are aspiring to be musicians like you?

Karen: Yes, if it is their calling.

Isaac: Describe one piece of advice you've have been given to by others in the music industry.

Karen: Aspiring musicians should ask themselves whether they are in it to fulfill themselves or to bring a light to the world. It their answer is the latter, please press on. Most of all, you must love to share your love for people through your music.

Isaac: What genre of music do you consider most of your music?

Karen: When I really think about it, I don't really consider one genre more than the other. Each song is one of "my babies" and I just can't seem to choose.

Isaac: What has been your favorite piece of work?

Karen: I don't have a favorite although I do believe depending upon the day; I listen to one more than the other.

Isaac: How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

Karen: Fans can hear samples of and purchase my music through the following website:

My CD can also be purchased through Amazon.com

My MySpace page is:

Isaac: Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support?

Karen: I would like thank God, my wonderful husband, and my mother for all that they have done and all that they are doing in my life.

Isaac: Any last words?

Karen: Thank you for giving me an opportunity to meet with you. I pray that God will continually pour out His blessings on you and your family!
