Checkout this new interview with Folk / Country/ Americana Singer/Songwriter Malcolm McKinney who is a master of storytelling through his music. Such enriching tracks like The Great American Ball, Malcolm sings and writes about the many struggles that Americans in today’s world are going through now. This is what appeals to me the most about this entertainer; his rich soulful voice and meaningful lyrics.

 

Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?

 

Malcolm: I performed at the 2008 Will McLean Festival and the Florida Folk

Festival.

 

Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?

 

Malcolm: I received a 2nd place in the Will McLean Best New Florida Song

Contest.

 

Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.

 

Malcolm: SE Florida has only a couple Folk venues; I do a lot of open mics.

 

Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?

 

Malcolm: Luna Star in North Miami is a great place to play; intimate and very receptive to folk music.

 

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?

 

Malcolm: Beatles, Stones, Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, BB King, Albert King,

James Taylor, Dave Van Ronk, Odetta, Jack Elliot, Pete Seeger were constantly on my record player in the 60s and 70s.

 

Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?

 

Malcolm: I write great songs with intelligent lyrics on a wide variety of topics and perform them well.

 

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?

 

Malcolm: I would love to appear with James Taylor. It would be a real kick and would help with exposure.

 

Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?

 

Malcolm: Songs of Florida, songs of protest, and songs of just about everything else.

 

Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?

 

Malcolm: I sell CDs at open mics.

Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?

 

Malcolm: I will be retiring from my position at Florida Atlantic University in three years on my 67th birthday when I can devote more time to music.  I have four CDs out now, am working on a fifth to be released in the fall, have two more in the planning stages.
