Who would have thought that someone who left a series only after one season would have rose to the level of stardom that this entertainer did back in the 1970's. The person that I am speaking about is the amazing Farrah Fawcett who dies today from anal cancer at the age of 62 years old. Fawcett [1] played the popular character (Jill Munroe) who became a household name in the original cast of the 1970s TV show Charlie's Angels. She was joined by Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith who made up the bombshell trio detectives. From that first season (1976-77) of the series, the show grew in popularity and so did each of its stars. But, it was Fawcett's overall sex appeal that made her the top favorite. Fawcett became America's hottest pin-up girl to many men during the 1970s and a role model to many young teenage girls. She was also famous for wearing a red swimsuit.

The actress also went on to appeared in a number of critically acclaimed projects including her Emmy nominated role for the Burning Bed. Fawcett [2] was romantically link to actor Lee Majors who she married; star of TV's The Six Million Dollar Man. She later became involved with actor Ryan O'Neal (though she never marries him) the two couple remained together over the years. But, it is her fight with cancer that brings me to write about this iconic star. Farrah [3] fought a brave fight against cancer that she even documents in a 2008 special titled A Wing & a Prayer: Farrah's Fight for Life. One of the saddest parts to the documentary was the struggle and pain that the actress endured while she fought for her very life. One haunting moment from the documentary that shocked me was where she shows her hair now mostly gone with only a dim memory of hanging strings of golden blonde locks that made her famous.

The fact that her domestic partner of many years, Ryan O'Neal, stood by her side until the end touched me in ways that are indescribable. She was a true hero in my eyes who fought to live to the very bitter end. Farrah Fawcett, a pop icon who ranges over a four decade span, will be truly missed by this editor-in-chief. Here's to one of the best original Charlie's Angels ever filmed. We love You!
