Withrow's February Rants
So here we are in 2007 and the world is spinning closer everyday to the time when we will elect a new president. It’s actually fairly exciting to me as the candidate field is full of new directions. On the GOP side there is a Mormon and on the Democrats side we have a woman and an African-American. It’s definitely a different cast of characters than we've seen before. Now of course the issue is whether we as Americans will actually elect anything other than the norm. Honestly, I’m ready for a change. America is supposed to be the land of equality but yet we've never had an African-American or female president, what’s up with that? Personally, I’m rooting for Hillary Clinton but that’s just me.
The other candidates have great things to offer as well but I’ve always been a fan of Hillary and I admire her strength and her determination. It doesn’t hurt that she’s extremely intelligent. Of course, there are a lot of people who won’t vote for her, for various reasons, but you never know, she may win the Democratic Primary and then we shall see what happens from there. One candidate on the GOP side puzzles me; Rudy Giuliani. for the life of me I cant understand why a party of supposed "FAMILY VALUES" would be rallying around a guy that’s had 3 marriages, a very public affair with his secretary, is pro-choice and supports gay unions?(not that I have a problem with any of those things) I know they say he was a great leader after 9-11 but that’s really questionable mean look at George Bush, they said he was a great leader during 9-11 and I think we all know that he is a terrible president, but I digress. so as we go forward into the election whirlwind I hope that we can all keep our heads together and maybe if the time is right and the candidate is worthy of our votes, we may also have a part in making history by electing the first female, the first African American or the first Mormon to the office of president of the USA.
